We worked with this wonderful couple a few years ago on their last property. When they purchased this home in La Jolla, there were a few things they asked us to help them with in order to truly make this home their own.
There was an awkward wall that blocked the flow between the kitchen and family room and the existing courtyard was crowded and overplanted. The challenge was – How to get a more functional, open space inside, while maximizing the outdoor living area?
The owners visualized a jewel box shaped addition. They wanted to create a visually stunning structure with a pop. The copper roof was a perfect fit!
When we started, the courtyard was overgrown with no cohesive design. There was a beautiful piece of wall art (left) that was only visible from the street. Now it's a tranquil focal point with a water feature.
When the Jewel Box addition is opened up, the usable space both indoors and out are maximized. The modern pergola compliments the clean, contemporary design echoed throughout the home.
Lighting truly shapes your outdoor living experience after sundown. We love how the lighting accents the path, the Coral tree draws you in, and the bench lighting invites you to relax and stay awhile!
The Trey ceiling of the Jewel Box includes a variety of features. Esthetically, the wooden beams match the floor beneath, but double as a valance for the automated roller shades that help dim the late afternoon sun.
There are so many trendy outdoor furniture sets out there today, it's hard to find something that fully compliments your design. Our talented design team pulled it all together. The owners couldn't be happier.

A quiet spot in the garden for reading and relaxing was created in place of an over planted area. The Sunset West chaise lounge is an ideal spot to enjoy the garden views. The built-in bench and custom cushion were added to wrap around an existing art sculpture area, for a comfortable spot.
